Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
